This is an excellent resource for a number of reasons. First, it lets you know that you’re not alone. I think one of the hardest things fir my wife and myself was the feeling of isolation. Everyone’s else’s children in both our families are typical so, having a child with special needs makes you feel separated, distant from everyone else. And how could anyone understand the struggles you go through? They can’t. Even if they are around you and see the challenges you faces they will never really “get it”. Having a resources like this lets you know you are not alone and that there are people who know what you are going though. I can’t place my finger on why that makes me feel a little better, but it does.
Then there is the support you get. Ask a question and you’ll likely get a number of responses with everyone wanting to help in any way that they can because most have been there and done that. everything from discussing PPT’s to evaluations.
